EUR ArChal Season School—September 2026

From 14 to 18 September, doctoral and master’s students took part in a training programme in landscape archaeology as part of the EUR ArChal Season School, held in Paimpont.

The programme provided participants with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of methods for reconstructing past landscapes and investigating human–environment interactions. Emphasising an interdisciplinary approach, the training combined theoretical lectures with practical workshops covering a range of archaeaoenvironmental disciplines. The programme began with an introduction to soil science and the contribution of geoarchaeology, including geomorphology and micromorphology. It then turned to the study of past flora and fauna through a series of case studies and hands-on workshops focusing on wood remains (anthracology), seeds (carpology), shells (malacology), insects (entomology), and animal bones.
